This month mission : net zero took to the vibrant city of Bath on a hospitality-fuelled itinerary to celebrate our one-year business anniversary; mission : fest 2023.
Founded by hospitality consultant Simon Catterick, mission : net zero works with a range of independent and internationally recognised hotel brands to help them meet their environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments. The team is a hotbed of sustainability knowledge, from building and technical services, to digital transformation through to wide ranging eco accreditation expertise.
“It was an obvious decision to celebrate our one-year anniversary in Bath; our mission to support hotels develop their environmental, sustainability and social impact credentials began right here. It was a pleasure to enjoy this wonderful city with the team and toast to what will be another busy year at mission : net zero.” – Simon Catterick, Founder and CEO
Mission : fest saw the team enjoy afternoon tea at the Royal Crescent Hotel and Spa, our first client in Bath to join our hotel portfolio in early 2022.
The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is a five-star 45-bedroom independent hotel who successfully achieved their Green Key award in June 2022. The Green Key award is the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. This prestigious eco-label represents a commitment by businesses that their premises adhere to the strict criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education. Louise Carr-Merino will be supporting their Green Team during the next audit to ensure they remain up-to-date with their accreditation status.
Green Tourism certification stands for the promise to hospitality guests that by opting to stay with any Green Tourism establishment, they are helping to make a difference on an environmental level. The Abbey Hotel, with our support, are diligently working towards their Gold certification which involves a step-change to their already impressive sustainability initiatives which are outlined on their website.
“We have been lucky enough to work with mission: net zero during the past 12- months to achieve Green Tourism, silver accreditation at Abbey Hotel Bath. It’s been an exciting journey so far, understanding how we as a hotel can make small and big changes to the way we operate, in order to be more sustainable and environmentally responsible. We are thrilled to be continuing our sustainability journey in the months ahead with their brilliant team, as we work towards achieving gold accreditation. ” – Sarah Moon, Head of Marketing
Our partnerships with these sustainable Bath hotels are rewarding and hugely successful – testament to the hotels’ Green Teams, management and investor teams. There is a growing commitment within the hospitality sector to work towards a net zero transition and we are proud to support that positive culture in Bath.
We work with Bath city’s independent hotel brands as well as international. Hampton by Hilton committed to working with us to develop environmental, sustainability and social impact initiatives across their hotel. As a result, the programme sees their hotel working towards earning prestigious Green Key International accreditation, demonstrating excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the hospitality industry.
“We are pleased to be working with mission :net zero who are supporting the hotel’s journey to improve its sustainability performance in the short, medium, and long run. We look forward to receiving our Green Key International accreditation in the near future as a result of this partnership and the team’s hard work.” – Angela Humble, General Manager at Hampton by Hilton Bath
After pre-dinner cocktails on the terrace at The Abbey, the team sat down to a wonderful meal at The Francis (pictured below). The Francis is a 98-bedroom 4* hotel and part of the Sutton Hotel Collection. The hotel team understand how their everyday operations impact the local community and through a Green Tourism programme involving People, Planet, Places – they are seriously committed to mitigating that impact.
It was great to stay overnight at DoubleTree by Hilton Bath where we caught up with the team, including Sonia, who leads the Green Team that are well on their way to earning Green Tourism, Gold certification. Sonia is pictured with the team below.
“2023 is proving to be an exciting year as we bring together several strands of our work on environmental sustainability – continuing our journey with our friends from mission : net zero, working towards our Green Tourism gold award, forging ahead with Green Key, and integrating a new role of sustainability coach into the mix. We’re looking forward to listening to all our stakeholders and coming up with some innovative ideas to help combat the biggest challenge we’ve all ever faced” – Sonia Batten, Sustainability Coach at DoubleTree by Hilton Bath.
Our 24 hour road trip to Bath was completed with a buzz as we visited our fostered bee hives to carry out a summer inspection of our bees alongside expert beekeeper, Martin Knight. The humble honeybees are bringing ours, and our hotel clients’ sustainability programmes to life, turning words and promises on a page to something tangible and powerful (and delicious)
Here at mission control, we are already looking forward to mission : fest 2024!
